Let me just say, categorizing this as “art” is a big stretch. But it features some of the same technical skills, so there’s that.
As a gag gift for a White Elephant Christmas party at my office, I created this image in Photoshop and had it printed and framed. I also printed out a huge poster for myself, which now hangs in one of the common areas of our building on Microsoft’s campus.
It’s the classic Star Wars promotional poster (for Episode IV, back then just called “Star Wars”) with the faces of well-known Microsoft figures edited onto the characters. There are also some appearances from Apple and Google.
It got a good laugh from my team, and lots of subsequent curiosity from other people in the building. It’s been fun to watch random people stop and take it all in.
Mainly, I’m proud of how well I was able to emulate the visual style of the original. That entailed picking photos with just the right face angles and lighting, converting the color palattes of those photos, and even reducing their quality to match the quality of the original poster. Whatever you do, do it well.
