Pricing

I charge $60/hour for technical writing and $40/hour for the other styles of writing. I’m always willing to give a time estimate before a job, so you’ll know what you’re paying beforehand.

This is a steal!

I’m a professional technical writer with over 7 years’ experience at the top of my industry. What I charge here is much less than what I make in my career for the same work. I don’t do freelance writing to make a fortune. Rather, I value the experience of working on different kinds of projects and applying my writing skills in new ways.

Success case

How I helped a bookkeeping business stop losing customers: Big E-Z is a company that sells accounting software to small businesses. They’d been seeing a trend of customers installing their product but failing to activate it, even with a 14-day free trial. I rewrote their entire Getting Started experience, combining several different pages and documents into a single comprehensive startup guide that’s easy to find online. I also wrote an email campaign to send to those customers. Customers are now moving ahead with the free trial in greater numbers!

Writing matters

If you want your product or business to have an air of excellence and professionalism, you absolutely need good writing. You can have the best product at the best prices, but poor writing will always make it seem shoddy and half-finished. I’ve been shocked to see acquaintances starting businesses and trying to attract high-value customers while their written copy is plagued by weird formatting, word misuse, and even misspellings. Customers notice these things, even if subconsciously. We associate good writing with companies that pay attention to detail and put in the effort to do things the right way.

About the writer

I’m a professional technical writer at Microsoft, and I author two blogs on the side.

At Microsoft, I’ve been responsible for telling the public everything they need to know in order to use our products. I’ve documented a variety of cutting-edge AI services, as well as more fundamental things like security and geolocation APIs. My professional work includes conceptual docs, quickstart guides, sample apps, and even API reference docs. I’ve also been consulted on some marketing and legal content, and I’ve done more marketing work as a freelancer.

On my own, I write blog posts on my personal blog and on True Generalist, a site I created to help generalists like me become their best selves.
