My wife and I have been on a number of trips together: first in Thailand where we met, then in Taiwan, then her first visit to New York, and then my second trip to Thailand. I made a poster featuring some of the iconic locations we’ve ventured to, as a birthday gift for her:

Process

The raw materials are these four photos we took on each of our respective trips:

I had been playing with AI style transfer and was inspired by vintage screen-printed travel posters. I ran my images through ChatGPT and asked it to convert them into that visual style. Then I did a lot of manual Photoshopping to fix up little details. I also had to change most of the colors so I could get the nice symmetry of two paired color palettes, with the same orange being used in both palettes to tie all four panels together.

And I had this selfie, which I took when we were embarking on the very first of those trips:

I made it a silhouette cutout. When I overlay that silhouette on an image, it looks like you’re seeing us from behind as we’re looking out at the scene.

And so I combined all those elements together, along with the theme text in that same orange color, to make this flashy poster celebrating our travels. Printed and framed.
